01

Start with your account

Install or update WeChat from the official app store and register or sign in with your own mobile number. TenPay says international visitors can link cards before or after arriving in mainland China.

Login, messaging and the wallet are different functions. Resolve account-verification issues first rather than buying an account or handing yours to a stranger.

02

Open the wallet and add a card

  1. 1

    Open payment settings

The documented path is Me → Services → Wallet → Bank Cards. Menus can vary by version and region; the official guide linked below includes interface references.

  2. 2

    Enter your own card details

Add an eligible international card and complete the app’s or issuer’s verification. Do not change your name or document details merely to get past a check.

  3. 3

    Check the funding card

At checkout, check the selected funding card, amount and fees. A card appearing in the wallet is not proof that a purchase succeeded.

03

Merchant payments and other wallet functions

TenPay documents three common methods: scanning a merchant code, showing your payment code, or choosing Weixin Pay inside a supported merchant app.

Do not assume merchant-payment access means transfers, red packets or every mini-program service will work. Use another payment method for unsupported transactions rather than paying a stranger to top up for you.

04

A missing wallet or failed payment

  • Check the app version, signed-in account and in-app notices, then use official help to confirm available features. Do not submit identity documents through an unknown QR code.
  • Distinguish registration, card-linking and transaction errors. Keep the error text and time so support can identify the issue.
  • If WeChat Pay is unavailable, use a prepared Alipay account, a physical card accepted by the merchant or cash.

Check before you go

These steps summarise official guidance, not guaranteed access for every account, card and merchant. Check current fees, functions and verification requirements in the app.
