Old Town of Lijiang
Lijiang Old Town developed around terrain and water. Branches of the Yu River pass through lanes, crossed by stone bridges linking houses, markets and courtyards. Mu rulers governed the region while trade brought goods and cultural influences from elsewhere. Naxi domestic architecture reflects this exchange. Sifang Street served as a market centre, and the relationship between channels and streets still shapes movement through the town.

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain rises through valleys, forests and alpine meadows to snow and ice. Glaciers form from accumulated compacted snow, moving slowly while carrying and grinding rock; retreat exposes debris and bare ground. The mountain has a sacred place in Naxi tradition. Villages, pastures and high glaciers also belong to a shared system of precipitation and meltwater.
BookingScenic-area tickets can be booked with real names seven days ahead through the official mini-program. On-site ticketing moved to the Baisha visitor centre in 2026; ropeways require separate booking.

Black Dragon Pool
Black Dragon Pool forms part of the water-source system serving Lijiang Old Town. Deyue Pavilion and bridges organise views across the spring-fed water. Relocated buildings such as Wufeng Tower preserve regional timber architecture and decoration. Clear conditions can reveal Jade Dragon Snow Mountain beyond the pool, while spring outlets and downstream channels show that this is part of a flowing urban water network.
Admission
The government publicity page's free evening access applies only to 28 September–20 October 2025. It does not establish free all-day access in 2026 or a separate duplicate heritage fee.

Cured pork ribs
In winter the Naxi people salt and air-dry pork ribs. Simmered as a hotpot, they give a deep, savoury broth for potatoes, radish and greens, eaten with a chilli dip. On a cold Lijiang night, nothing is more warming.
Chickpea jelly
This Lijiang jelly is made from a local chickpea-like bean, ground, cooked and set into a grey-yellow block. In summer it is cut into strips and dressed with sour, spicy sauce; in winter it is fried until crisp outside and soft within. You will find it on streets across the old town.

Arriving
Lijiang Sanyi serves air arrivals; rail arrivals still need an onward transfer to the old town. Ask old-town accommodation for its accessible pickup point and luggage arrangements.
Getting around
Explore the old town on foot and plan Black Dragon Pool around your base. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a separate mountain outing: check transport, booked activities and current access first.
Where to stay
Dayan old town offers historic lanes, with easier vehicle access at its edge. Consider Shuhe for a quieter base, comparing evening surroundings and access to mountain-tour meeting points.
Choose a walk along the old town’s waterways for houses, bridges and lanes. Seek Dongba cultural displays alongside the main shopping streets.
