Find the official channel

  1. 1

    Start on the attraction’s website

Check the full attraction name and operator, then follow its website to the ticket system or official mini program. Search ads, similarly named accounts and paid agents are not official merely because they rank highly.

  2. 2

Record the rules in your calendar

Record days ahead, release time in Beijing time, closures, time slots and last admission. Mainland China uses UTC+8; convert if your phone still uses another timezone.

  3. 3

    Enter every visitor’s document

Choose passport and enter name, number and nationality as instructed. Check children’s and concession tickets separately. After payment, verify date, party size, order status and ID details, then save the confirmation offline.

02

Palace Museum: a concrete example

The Palace Museum’s official instructions say there are no same-day ticket sales and tickets are released seven days ahead at 20:00. Select admission and any Treasury or Clocks galleries through the official page. Reservations apply to the selected date; a payment screenshot is not a valid named order.

Start from the official Palace Museum booking page below and check the current passport procedure, entrance and opening notice. Do not assume a Tiananmen Square reservation or another nearby sight’s ticket includes the Palace Museum; check each venue separately.

03

Sold out, number restrictions and closures

  • If overseas numbers are unsupported, check the attraction’s official English page or staffed service. Do not buy under a stranger’s identity. A hotel may help call, but the ticket must belong to the actual visitor.
  • If sold out, check official returns or change dates and have a nearby alternative. Paid claims of “inside allocations” do not guarantee valid admission.
  • Recheck weather, temporary closures and transport on the day; major events or conservation work can change opening. Refund processes depend on the original booking channel.

Check before you go

The Palace Museum is a specific example; do not apply its seven-day window to every sight. Check release times, concessions and passport channels for your destination.

Common questions

Is a payment record enough for entry?

Not necessarily. Confirm the order is successful, visitor and document details are correct, and carry the original ID. Pending, refunded or waitlisted orders are not admission.

Can I transfer a ticket if plans change?

Named tickets commonly restrict name changes, refunds and transfers. Follow the official process rather than privately selling an ID-linked booking.
