Use the official waitlist
- 1
Choose options you can take
Add acceptable trains, dates and classes in 12306, then complete the required verification and prepayment. Avoid early departures you cannot reach or dates that conflict with accommodation.
- 2
Choose a useful cutoff
Set the fulfilment cutoff allowed on screen, but make your own decision before travel preparation, connection or backup-cancellation deadlines. A late system cutoff does not mean waiting that long is sensible.
- 3
Monitor the order
After fulfilment, check train, date, passenger and seat. You cannot board using an unfulfilled request. Cancelled or expired unfulfilled requests are refunded under official rules, with processing time depending on the payment channel.
Search alternatives in this order
- First change departure time or class, then check other stations in the city. Beijing South, Beijing West and Shanghai Hongqiao are distinct locations; recalculate access time.
- Check official connecting journeys. Record both train numbers, stations and dates; favour same-station transfers and allow a buffer, especially with luggage or reduced mobility.
- Split tickets must cover the entire actual journey and every segment must be issued. Do not buy a short-distance ticket expecting to extend onboard; capacity and rules may prevent this.
- Then compare flying, official intercity coaches or changing your overnight stop. Include airport transfers, baggage and cancellation charges in the cost.
Clean up once your plan is fixed
Separate waitlists without timetable conflicts can each fulfil; do not assume one ticket cancels every other request. Once transport is decided, review all pending orders and backup-ticket cancellation deadlines and cancel unwanted waitlists. Keep confirmations and refund records.
Check before you go
There is no verifiable guarantee that a ticket-grabbing service will secure a seat. A third-party speed package is not railway ticket confirmation; keep a workable holiday backup.
Common questions
Can I rely on a high estimated success rate?
No. An estimate is not an issued ticket. Do not rely on a waitlist for the essential final connection to an international flight.
Can I keep one seat with split tickets on the same train?
Follow the seat assigned to each ticket; you may need to move. Ensure the segments join without a gap and ask train staff if anything is unclear.
